What’s Your Career Story?

What Makes My Services Different

01.

Specialized Generalist

I have a PhD, a CDP diploma, and 15 years’ experience in higher education, but I have also worked across disciplines and outside of academia. I’m comfortable working with clients on career issues in any industry inside or outside of higher ed.

02.

Understanding

I know what it’s like to feel lost in your job search, confused by a toxic work environment, or just frustrated by a lack of apparent upward mobility. I balance self-employment with employment, keeping me well-aware of workplace culture. I became a coach because I am genuinely committed to helping people, and treating them with the respect they deserve.

03.

Customized Service

I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to career management. Each of us defines success differently, and has different needs and priorities. I don’t assume, and I won’t tell you what you should want or do. I work with you to help you identify your needs and wants, and I support you with strategies that work best for you.

Coaching Services

Most clients come to me when they’re looking to make a change. Whether it’s for a critique of their resume, or to talk about job search strategies and post-academic career issues for my fellow PhDs, the majority of clients access services for the first time when they want a new job.

Choosing a Career Coach

Whether this is your first time choosing a career coach, or you are looking to work with someone new, welcome. Choosing a career coach should be a thoughtful process, rather than a rush to the credit card.

Resumes

Be ready to apply for the right job at a moment’s notice with a strong resume & cover letter, or CV and academic documents.

Linkedin

More than your online resume, LinkedIn introduces the world to the professional you.

About Catherine

I started my career planning to be a professor. I wanted to research, teach, write, and change the world! I thought I could only do that as a university faculty member. I was wrong.

I’ve worked in the non-profit sector and on the staff side of higher education, helping clients at all levels from undergraduate through postdoctoral fellows and established professionals define career success.

In 2013, I launched CM Coaching Services. I have been blessed to collaborate with fantastic organizations in Canada & the US on career development projects for their students and highly qualified personnel (HQP). My individual clients are no less amazing, ranging from recent graduates to senior leaders across industries.

I couldn’t have predicted my career when I started. I didn’t even know that my profession existed, yet I couldn’t be happier with my choice. I want that same feeling for my clients.

My clients have described working with me as a game changer. Why? I listen, and I pay attention to the things that you might not even know that you’re saying. I ask tough questions, and provide you with the support and safe space to work on the answers. My Zoom office is a judgement-free zone, where I make sure that my clients can honestly discuss whatever career issue is weighing most on their minds. I empower my clients with the right information, strategies, and tools to take control of their career situation and move forward from a position of strength.
